Tough Times

It's tough for thousands in East Tennessee, but the Tennessee Career Center is taking steps to help folks get back on their feet.

Thousands across East Tennessee and the United States are facing times they never thought they'd have to. I've reported stories on air, read them online and heard them from friends. But today, I saw their faces. Nate and I did a story today on Group Filing Sessions the Tennessee Career Center is holding to help folks get back on their feet after losing their jobs. I met people today that have never before filed for unemployment and those that have, but have never had this many problems. Because there is an overwhelming number of people calling and filing online, the system is overloaded. The Career Center has stepped in to relieve the volume and get folks the money they need. Those same people who walked into the center with confusion and sadness on their faces, left with hope and smiles. It was a great feeling to see them have confidence knowing they can take care of their bills, and their families, as they try to get back into the workforce. It's a tough time for a lot of people out there, every little bit helps, and in this case, it was knowing that someone out there understands their pain and was willing to take a few minutes to help them solve their problems - which could ultimately solve some much bigger ones.

If you'd like to attend the Group Filing Sessions, they are for lack of work claims only. The sessions are Mondays and Thursdays at 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM and Fridays at 8:30 AM at the Tennessee Career Center at 1610 University Avenue.
You must have a separation notice stating separation due to lack of work and two forms of ID - one must be a photo ID.

If the sessions have helped you, let others know about your experience by leaving your comments at the top of the page. You never know what your thoughts could do for others.

See you in the morning,

Allison
