Teen pregnancy and abortion is on the rise across the nation. Up for the first time in a decade. According to a new report by Guttmacher Institute, the overall teen pregnancy rate jumped 3%. There was a 4% increase in the rate of births. A 1% increase in the rate of abortions. I'm excited to report Tennessee, the state long harped upon for having high teenage pregnancy rates, is bucking the national trend. Tennessee is down 1.8% for teenage pregnancy rate!!! Tennessee's birth rate is down .9% and the state's abortion rate is down .6%!! That is over 10 years from 1995-2005; the most recent data. So what do you think about Tennessee numbers going down? What do you think about the national numbers on the rise? How will you tell your children about the statistics?
