Thursday, December 7, 6 p.m., “Southern Appalachian Studies Series: Stories from Cemeteries of the Smokies. Author, Gail Palmer, Ph.D., will tell some of the story behind the publication of “Cemeteries of the Smokies” and will relate stories about some of the people who lived there before formation of the Park, and who are buried there. A Blount County native, Dr. Palmer’s connection to the Park is through her mother, Mary Sparks Palmer, related to the Sparks’ families of Cades Cove. Light refreshments will be served. This Appalachian Studies program is in conjunction with Southland Books of Maryville and will be in Dorothy Herron Rooms A & B.
