Kyle Grainger is the weekend weather anchor and files reports from Sevier County weekdays on Local 8 News.
Kyle grew up in coastal South Carolina, where his passion for weather began at a young age. The local weather man spoke to his school in the 4th grade, from there he knew television was the career for him. Along the coast he lived through multiple hurricanes which helped fueled his drive for the business. He wanted to be the reporter standing on the beach warning everyone to be safe.
As a kid Kyle had his own studio and anchor desk in the corner of his bedroom. He did his first weather on TV at the age of 10. That same station gave Kyle his on air career start in Myrtle Beach as a reporter.
Since 2002 Kyle has held almost every job in the newsroom from producing, assignment desk, anchoring and reporting.
Kyle is also a certified storm spotter through the National Weather Service and plans to study Meteorology at Mississippi State University in 2016.
Kyle's love for East Tennessee helps inspire the stories he brings you. He loves being out in the community, meeting people and sharing their stories.
For nearly 15 years Kyle has covered everything from hurricanes to wildfires plus all the snow and ice in between. He remembers one of his first assignments here. It was to cover a deadly tornado in Crossville. Those images of destruction and the tears the community shed still live with Kyle.
Kyle's had an opportunity to interview some of the country's favorite celebrities from Vanna White, a Myrtle Beach native, to Dolly Parton who continues to help Sevier County in so many ways.
Kyle considers covering Sevier County and the Great Smoky Mountains a blessing for him. He says he has made so many friends in the community through telling their stories.
