BCSO: 5 in custody after crashing stolen vehicle

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Five people are in custody after a chase that started in Maryville and ended at Ridgeway Trail in Blount County.

According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, five people were in a vehicle reported stolen out of Knox County that crashed on Friday. After the crash, the group fled on foot.

A Blount County K-9 team found four of the individuals a half mile from the crash scene near the U.S. Highway 129 junction. Deputies later located the fifth individual hiding in a ditch in the Binfield community.

Two men and three women are currently being booked into the Blount County Correctional Facility.

During processing, corrections officers said they found 10 grams of crystal meth and drug paraphernalia on two of the females. Investigators said they will both be charged with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office Facebook page said further investigation revealed numerous items that are believed to have been stolen in the stolen vehicle.

The sheriff's office with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force are continuing the investigation.
