KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- A 7-year-old boy has died Sunday evening after being left unattended in a West Knoxville motel swimming pool. The boy was identified by police as Darshawn Martez Witt.

Officers responded just after 7 p.m. to Quality Inn and Suites, 317 N. Cedar Bluff Road. The boy was found at the bottom of the pool and was unresponsive. A bystander pulled the child out and began CPR until he was transported to Park West Medical Center, but he didn't survive.

Investigators say there were no adults present at the pool, and are currently interviewing the child's family to discover how this happened. The 7-year-old child was in the custody of his grandmother, according to KPD.

A representative with the Knoxville Police Department identified the child. Out of respect for the family, Local 8 News has chosen not to release the child's name.

This is the third report of a possible drowning at the Quality Inn & Suites West Waterpark Local 8 News has covered online and on its broadcast.

A four-year-old boy drowned March 29, 2015 and another child survived after swimming in the deep end of the pool at the hotel a year later.
