Community to give back to local law enforcement

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Maryville woman is organizing a day for the community to give back to local law enforcement.

She is calling for August 1 to be a day for everyone to treat officers with kindness, treats, prayers or just a good deed to let them know they are supported. The movement is being called #WeBackBlue.

Ashley Shepherd wrote on her website that she is gathering friends and families to deliver cards, bottled water, pre-packaged snacks and hugs to local police officers. She wrote women in more than 300 cities are organizing events for the day.
