KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Tennessee's record-setting defensive lineman, Derek Barnett, is looking back on his time wearing the orange and white in a thank you letter to the University of Tennessee, his family and Vol Nation.
"Foregoing my senior year was a hard decision but it has always been my dream to play in the NFL," Barnett says in the letter. "As I enter the next journey of my life, it’s most important to me that you know, all I’ve ever wanted to do was represent the Tennessee Football program and my home state of Tennessee well."
Barnett eclipsed Reggie White's sack record during the Vols bowl game against Nebraska. Barnett is a 2016 First Team All-Southeastern Conference Coaches selection and a 2016 Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference First Team pick. CBS Sports projects Barnett to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
