SPRING CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An emergency preparedness training drill involving the Watts Bar nuclear plant was planned for Wednesday, August 16. The drill will include emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies, who will join Tennessee Valley Authority personnel.
The drill is part of an ongoing series of exercises that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires in order to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Watts Bar.
The drill on Wednesday will involve hundreds of personnel, who will be working in multiple locations near the plant. People living in or traveling through the area may see increased traffic during the drill.
The drill precedes a similar exercise that will be held on December 13. Results from the exercises will be shared in a public meeting after December 13.
