CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation obtained indictments for two former sworn officers of the Calhoun Police Department.

The TBI started investigating Julie Tanksley and Charles Godsey on April 8, 2015. During the investigation, agents learned that Tanksley, the former chief, and Godsey, an officer, allegedly extorted two people they arrested by taking their belongings until the arrestees gave money to the police department's drug fund.

The McMinn County Grand Jury returned indictments Tuesday charging Tanksley and Godsey with two counts of extortion each.

The former police department employees surrendered to authorities at the McMinn County Jail on Friday.

Both Tanksley and Godsey were booked into jail then released on a $4,000 bond.
