ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn, (WVLT) -- Behind the gates of Camp Tanasi close to Norris Lake, Girl Scouts have been sleeping in hammocks, cooking over an open fire and learning how to survive in the wild.
"Today we made a fire by ourselves without any help, and it feels really good when we accomplish something we hadn't accomplished before," said scout Emma Tuttle.
The girls spent five days in the wilderness, and showers were optional. Becoming one with nature and disconnecting from the world, the girls said that's what it's all about.
"Once you get out here, there's so much other stuff to do than to be on a phone," said Scout Ella Wilds. "Everything we've done, we've done ourselves, we have gained so many new skills from this, and it's grown our confidence a great deal."
