CORRYTON, Tenn. (WVLT) - Horse Haven of Tennessee and crews with the Knox County Rescue Squad were able to save a horse in Corryton late Wednesday night.

Sysco, a 27-year-old horse, became stuck in deep mud created by a pond that was in the process of drying out.

The top of the animal's back and its head were the only parts of its body not covered in mud.

Officials with Horse Haven of Tennessee said University of Tennessee would help with the rescue effort as well. They said their goal was to free the animal as quickly as possible.

Rescuers were eventually able to pull the horse from the mud. Sysco will now be taken to the UT veterinary school for examination.
