KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A scary morning for a man who fell off a light pole and dangled in the air for hours just before noon.
Local 8 News Anchor Lauren Davis talked with a witness who watched the heart stopping moments before the rescue.
Hundreds come to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium to watch the Vols play, but Thursday many people were there watching a man hanging on for dear life.
The utility worker was replacing stadium lights when witnesses nearby heard him fall. Brian Taylor said, "He freaked out then he fell one more time. After that he tried to climb back up and he was weak so he fell back off."
He hung there hugging the pole while other workers tried to help him.
They worked for an hour and a half, but couldn't get him down. Brian Taylor said, "I was trying to do everything I could cause if you sit in a harness too long, you will lose blood flow and go into shock."
He didn't go into shock because they finally called the fire department. They were there in 20 minutes. Firefighters used their ladder truck to rescue him off the pole.
They brought him down to safety where he was glad to see co-workers. Brian Taylor said, "Anybody doing jobs like that needs to be safe. You never know when something like this can happen. Always check your equipment and make sure it's locked like it should."
The man is expected to make a full recovery.
