KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officers from the Knoxville Police Department, Rural/Metro and the Knoxville Fire Department responded to a call of a shooting at 2806 Whittle Springs Road in Knoxville. The shooting left two males dead, one inside the house and one outside.
The men shot were identified as James Aaron Taylor, Jr., 26, and Courtney Deontea Gillette, 25.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 6:11 p.m. Monday after a female caller said that a male had been shot inside her residence.
The road was closed off around the scene with KPD patrol cars and a firetruck stationed outside the home. Police would not allow media inside the scene.
Police said they discovered two deceased males at the scene. One male was located inside the residence while the second male was located lying in the front yard. Police said it appeared both males died from gunshot wounds.
"James Taylor is my brother," said Raynecia Jones, the sister of one of those killed told Local 8 News. "He is my big brother, and he was so nice and so sweet, I don't know who would do this to my brother. Somebody, please help."
The family of one of those shot told Local 8 News he was actually the cousin of JaJuan Latham, the 12-year-old shot and killed in a gang-related shooting in Mechanicsville.
William Juckett, a neighbor of one of the victims, told Local 8 News he was shocked the shooting happened.
"I've seen people coming in and out of the house, and they always seemed like they were happy and having fun. I never thought it would be an issue," Juckett said.
Multiple investigators are conducting interviews and reviewing evidence recovered from the scene.
The home is located near the corner of Whittle Springs Road and Adair Avenue in North Knoxville.
