Kentucky lawmaker proposes new cigarette tax

FRANKFORT, KY. (WYMT) -- One Kentucky lawmaker is proposing new taxes legislation which would add one dollar to every pack of cigarettes.

Senator Stephen Meredith of Leitchfield proposed the bill Thursday.

Meredith says the money generated would go to a new fund to reimburse Kentucky's Medicaid program for the cost of treating tobacco-related illnesses.

The increase would also apply to chewing tobacco.
