Knoxville woman convicted of murder

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knox County jury convicted a Knoxville woman of second degree murder.

The jury convicted Danielle Wright, 29, of second degree murder in the shooting death of Purnell Leon Nimmons.

The shooting began as a verbal fight between the two at the Lakeview Motel on Chapman Highway in South Knoxville on April 3, 2016. The argument escalated, and Wright left to change clothes. She came back about five minutes later.

Wright pulled out a handgun and shot Nimmons in the back as he tried to escape.

Wright will be sentenced at a hearing on June 8, 2017. She is a first-time offender and is facing 15 to 25 years in prison.
