KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Many people know Pete Claussen as the guy that owns the Christmas train at Volunteer Landing.
Yes that's true, but not many people around the world know the Pete Claussen that's now making trains that are practically emission free.
"People are sort of amazed that we're building locomotives here in Knoxville, actually these are the only locomotives to ever been built in Tennessee," said Claussen.
The process requires an engine to be totally deconstructed all the way down to the frame.
Then, they use a patented device connected to the train's alternator that cuts emissions by 98% and saving 20% in fuel. .
The engines are used primarily in industry work, but so far Claussen says the reaction has been phenomenal and they're all made in Tennessee.
