Police say cats were likely burned alive, man arrested for cruelty to animals

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT)- A Morristown man has been arrested for killing three cats, police say it's likely he placed them inside a hot oven while they were still alive.

Jacob Lamar is charged with cruelty to animals. The incident happened in July of 2015 but police just recently were able to track him down.

According to the cat's owner, Krystal Purdue, Lamar was left alone with the cats. When she came home she found Lamar outside throwing up and a foul odor coming from the house. He told her had to "scold" one of the cats for going to the bathroom inside the house.

Purdue found one cat hiding behind her stove with a bloodied nose but three others were missing.

It wasn't until three days later she found them dead inside a trash can wrapped in a Wal-Mart bag.

Inside her oven she found seven cat nails and burnt cat hair. It's likely the cats were put into the oven still alive.

An autopsy done on the cats shows they died from blunt force trauma and that their bodies and foot pads were blistered.
