KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- According to a recent nationwide survey of 1,000 parents commissioned by Groupon, 57 percent of those who responded said they had absolutely nothing planned for the family this summer.

The numbers were surprising because 99 percent of the same group do want to do something fun and exciting with their kids over the summer.

Other findings in the poll concluded that the favorite family activity was going to the beach, followed by visiting an amusement park.

The average family travels about 600 miles together throughout the summer, with most vacation destinations about 4 hours away.

The study also found that the perfect summer consisted of 6 dinners out, 5 movie outings, and two oversea trips.
