Sen. Corker: Pres. Trump will be remembered for the "debasing of our nation"

President Donald Trump and Senator Bob Corker (MGN)

WASHINGTON (WVLT) -- The Twitter battle continued Tuesday morning between President Trump and Senator Bob Corker.

President Trump sent off two tweets about the Tennessee senator starting at around 8:15 a.m.

The tweets read:

"Bob Corker, who helped President O give us the bad Iran Deal & couldn't get elected dog catcher in Tennessee, is now fighting Tax Cuts...."

"...Corker dropped out of the race in Tennesse when I refused to endorse him, and now is only negative on anything Trump. Look at his record!"

"Isn't it sad that lightweight Senator Bob Corker, who couldn't get re-elected in the Great State of Tennessee, will now fight Tax Cuts plus!"

"Sen. Corker is the incompetent head of the Foreign Relations Committee, & look how poorly the U.S. has done. He doesn't have a clue as....."

"...the entire World WAS laughing and taking advantage of us. People like liddle' Bob Corker have set the U.S. way back. Now we move forward!"

Senator Corker fired back with a tweet just before 8:50 a.m. that said, "Same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #AlertTheDaycareStaff"

President Trump's social media posts come as Senator Corker discussed tax reform, his relationship with President Trump, and the attack in Niger on CBS This Morning.

Since Mr. Trump's morning tweets, Corker has unleashed his opinions about the president to reporters.

When speaking with media outlets at the Capitol, Corker said President Trump will be remembered for "the debasing of our nation," and criticized his conduct.

Corker was also asked if he regretted supporting Mr. Trump for president. He responded, "Let's just put it this way: I would not do that again."

The senator told reporters the president's demeanor and spreading of "non-truths' impacts young people the most.

"We have young people who for the first time are watching a president, stating, you know, absolute non-truths nonstop. Personalizing things in the way that he does. it's -- it's very sad for our nation."

The Twitter feud started on October 8 when the president tweeted, "Senator Bob Corker 'begged' me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said 'NO' and he dropped out (said he could not win without..."

The president continued, " endorsement). He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said 'NO THANKS.' He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal!"

His third tweet about Corker on Oct. 8 read, "...Hence, I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn't have the guts to run!"

Corker responded to the blast with a jab of his own on October 8. He tweeted, "It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Corker said he believes President Trump could set the U.S. "on the path to World War III." He told CBS that, "it appears to be the governing model of this White House to purposefully divide."
