KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The wife of a former assistant football coach at South Doyle High School was arrested and facing rape charges.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office arrested Kelsey McCarter Thursday, charging her with six counts of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure and one count of Exploitation of a Minor by Electronic Means.

McCarter is the wife of Justin McCarter who resigned on Feb. 4, 2016 as the assistant football coach at South Doyle.

The District Attorney's office will not pursue criminal charges against Justin McCarter and Knox County Schools employees, Tim Berry and Clark Duncan.

Local 8 News spoke with South Doyle students. They said they saw sexual pictures of the wife and a student who was living with McCarter and her husband at the time.

"Fights like every regular high school, but nothing about a teacher and a teacher's wife involvement with a student," said Kerry Ledger, Senior at South Doyle High School.

"I feel like it's given a bad look to our school and our community," said Ian Davis, Freshman at South Doyle High School.

Students told Local 8 News they just want to get their school back to normal. They said they miss their principal, Mr. Berry. They added he always had a positive outlook at school and gave them all the motivation they need.

"We can get our principal back Mr. Berry, that's the only thing," said Ledger. "That's what we need. School's been going downhill since Mr Berry left."

Knox County Schools said Berry and Duncan remain on administrative leave with pay. Their status is under review.

McCarter was booked into jail on a $30,000 bond and will be arraigned in Knox County Criminal Court in the coming days.
