(WVLT) -- Offenders with the Tennessee Department of Corrections created and donated gifts to children for the Christmas holiday this year.
Inmates from the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex women's site crocheted approximately 40 stuffed animals and donated them to Van Buren Head Start students.
Inmates from the Morgan County Correctional Complex participated in Operation Christmas Child and created about 4,500 handmade wooden toys. Inmates created an additional 300 or so that were donated to Morgan County Schools.
Inmates from the Northeast Correctional Complex created approximately 2,500 handmade wooden toys for Operation Christmas Child. Inmates also refurbished 16 bikes for the Mountain City Community Center to donate to children in need or who wanted a bicycle. Inmates also donated a total of $2,700 to be used to purchase gifts for children spending the Christmas weekend visiting the Northeast Correction Complex facility.
