KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Tennessee Highway Patrol is accepting applications for the 2017 Spring Citizens' Trooper Academy in Knoxville.
The academy consists of 30 hours of training and runs for 10 weeks with topics like investigations, homeland security, patrol, driver license and handgun permit issuance. It is designed to give people a better understanding and awareness of THP and the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
Participants of the academy must be at least 21-years-old and able to make it to weekly 3-hour sessions with no more than one absence, sign required waivers and agreements, and have no criminal history.
Classes start April 18 at the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport in Alcoa. Sessions run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekly.
