Tom Cruise shows his Volunteer Spirit in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The star of Days of Thunder and Top Gun stopped by earlier this week to meet fans, especially one little girl who got a new bike. It's Volunteer Spirit that originated from a local business, Regal Cinemas.

It's not everyday that knoxville gets a little Hollywood. Superstar actor Tom Cruise is here premiering his new movie Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

"The money that was raised here, it's really important, and I thank you all and congratulate you," said Cruise at the movie premier held Monday evening.

There is a greater reason for this event.

"I really wanted a bike. I told my mom, I went in her bedroom and I said, Mom! I want a bike, and then she started crying," said Adrianna Urqhart.

She just wanted to be like other kids.

"It's so special to me that I got a bike to ride on it," says Adrianna.

She got that thanks to Variety, a non profit that helps bring mobility to kids with special needs.

"Insurance considers the mobility bike just a luxury item, and as you can see it's helping her," said Carol Fusco with Variety of Eastern Tennessee.

"She wants to do like everybody else riding around and playing. With her legs not being strong enough. That helps her to get outside," said her grandfather Arthur Petrose.

Through fundraising events like this one, Tom Cruise is showing his Volunteer Spirit.

"It's an honor. It's an honor to be part of something like that, and you know to help," said Cruise.
