SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- As we jump into spring, there are a lot of exciting events coming up in Sevier County. Amanda Marr with the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce broke it down for us.
Marr said Sevierville is celebrating 30 years of the Dolly Parton statue in historic downtown.
They've created an exhibit called 30: Celebrating Dolly in Bronze at the Sevierville Visitor Center on Highway 66 that shows folks how this was created.
"We wanted to tell people the back story behind the statue and why the community wanted to honor Dolly in this way," said Marr.
Even Dolly joined in.
"She had even provided us some letters and an autographed picture that we framed and put up in the display," said Marr. "She wanted to make sure she was telling some stories, especially how her father felt about the statue, so that's really touching and we're glad that's included, as well."
Plus, they are getting ready for the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition where you can pick any of Dolly's songs and audition sing it in your own style.
"If you're a rocker, if you're a rap artist, if you're a county singer, it you're a bluegrass artist, whatever style yours is, show how versatile Dolly's song writing is," said Marr. "Take that song, make it your own, sing it your own style."
