Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The 2017 High School football season kicked off with a trio of games involving area teams including our Rivalry Thursday opener at Carter where the Green Hornets played host to Anderson County.
This one would turn out to be a slug fest with the home team taking a
27-25 lead into the locker room at the break.
Not much defense in the second half as well as the visiting Mavericks erupt for 30 more points including a 61 yard TD run by quarterback Stanton Martin, your player of the game on the MyVLT television broadcast. Your final from carter, 55-27 Mavs.
Over at Grace Christian, it was new head coach Rusty Bradley and his Rams hosting defendin state champion Alcoa. The Rams took a quick 7-0 lead on a TD pass from Luke Kirby to Eli Nordhorn.
The Tornadoes would answer on a short K'vaugn Tyson TD run. Those would be the only first half touchdowns with Gary Rankin's Tornadoes leading 9-7 at the break. Alcoa, would flex some muscle in the second half and pull away for a season opening 30-to-14 win.
And finally, it was Central visiting Tennessee High in upper East Tennessee and the Bobcats were ready. Dakota Fawver and Isaiah Osborne had first half scores for the Cats who start out 1-0 with an impressive 33-19 win over the Vikings.
