Mother, boyfriend charged in death of Campbell County 3-year-old

JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Campbell County man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter.

Joshua Comer, 33, has been charged with felony first degree murder in the death of Gabriella Orton. Deputies are still trying to locate Comer.

Gabriella was brought into the LaFollette Medical Center Emergency Room on June 10 and was pronounced dead just a short time after her arrival. Comer brought the child to the hospital.

Deputies say there was visible evidence of serious physical abuse and the final autopsy results are still pending.

"Serious physical abuse. As this case develops and discovery is given, more information will be available," Attorney General Lori Phillips-Jones said.

The child's mother, Amber Leann Rezentes, 29, has been charged with aggravated child neglect.

"This case has been very difficult. as they all are. it's hard to believe that you actually have to investigate a young child in this situation," Sheriff Robbie Goins said.

He added that it's unfortunate that the law has to be the voice of a three year old girl. a girl in a picture with mud on her hands, and a smile that won't be forgotten.

"We won't take child abuse lightly in Campbell County, and we will do everything we can to prosecute the people responsible for child abuse in Campbell County."

Rezentes is being held on $750,000 bond.

We also found Comer has a history of violence. Local 8 News found six charges of domestic assault, a charge of assault on a juvenile, as well as child abuse and neglect.

The sheriff says this case is still under investigation, and his team is not letting up on it until Comer is caught and justice is served.

If you know where Comer is, call your local police department.
