MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say three Memphis-area teachers have been charged this month with raping students.
Authorities on Tuesday charged Sherwood Middle seventh-grade teacher Arlen Wilburn with statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl, The Associated Press reported. A message left on Wilburn's voicemail was not immediately returned.
Jonathon Austin, a teacher at Southeast Prep Academy, was charged May 13 with statutory rape after a 17-year-old student said she's had a relationship with him since March. Austin vehemently denied the accusations in an interview with WMC-TV.
Detectives on May 5 charged 28-year-old Stacy Hopkins, an Arlington High wellness teacher, with raping two male students, now 16 and 18 years old. A number listed for Hopkins has been disconnected and she could not be reached for comment.
All three teachers have been suspended without pay.
