8th grader at Knoxville school arrested for bringing gun to school

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An eighth grade student at Vine Magnet/Middle School was arrested Friday for bringing a gun into the east Knoxville school, according to a Knox Co. School's spokesperson Melissa Copelan.

The Knoxville Police Department confiscated the gun from the student's backpack. The gun wasn't loaded and no ammunition was found.

Copelan said police routinely conduct random backpack checks.
