All's quiet now at the Monroe County Jail after a jail break was put down

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn.(WVLT)--Several inmates tried to break out of the Monroe County Jail, even getting as far as wedging open their cell door.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says it happened last Thursday around 9pm. Inmates in two cells began destroying property, including cameras, bunks, lights, phones, and televisions.

They even used a busted bunk to pry open the cell door, and then another door leading to a hallway.

Officers from several different agencies responded, getting control of the first cell and of the inmates inside. The inmates were restrained and moved to a different cell inside the facility.

Officers also restrained the inmates in the second cell and moved to a different cell as they had flooded and caused extensive damage to both the original cells.

Charges are pending against multiple inmates for the disturbance and the vandalism. No one was seriously hurt.
