JEFFERSON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept. has identified a Dandridge woman as a suspect in the death of a 68 year-old man found in his living room on Monday.
Authorities believe Elizabeth Ann Mills killed William Buchanan in his home on Chucky Pike. They added that they think drugs were involved and noted Mills had been previously arrested on drug charges.
Buchanan's daughter Sue Salazar said it's hard to believe.
"We went to school with her. She checked up on him from time to time because her mom lived down his street," Salazar said. "She'd even go to the store for him sometimes."
"I don't think she did it alone though," she said. "I hope she gets punished for what she's done."
Buchanan's son Scott and friend Sam Kaiser found him when they went to go check on him after not hearing from him.
"We walked inside and he was laying in there dead," Kaiser said.
Sheriff G.W. "Bud" McCoig said Monday's call wasn't the first time they've been called out to the home.
"This past year, we have worked a home invasion at the same location," McCoig said.
Deputies arrested three people in connection to the home invasion, one of them a juvenile, and said the motivation for that break in was pills.
"He was on some medication and had health issues and the medication that he was on, unfortunately, is what a lot of people are addicted to in this county right now," McCoig said.
McCoig said there is no connection between the robbery and the murder at this time. But whoever killed him could have been looking for the same thing.
Buchanan's family will have a memorial service at Fielden Funeral Home on Churchview Street in New Market, TN from 5-7 pm on Saturday.
