MOORESBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Hawkins Co. Sheriff's Office will have to wait another week to find out what killed three-year-old Emily Barnard and file charges in connection with her death, Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said in a statement on Friday. Authorities had had said they might receive the results by the end of the week.
Barnard died Monday morning.
Officials attributed her death to what they described as a devastating case of child abuse and suspect Amber Gibson, 25, may be to blame. The Sheriff's Office expects to file charges once the autopsy results are released.
Emily's dad Erik Barnard first told police the girl had fallen and hit her head, but other family members said her body was badly bruised and they do not believe it was an accident.
