Crimetracker: Knoxville man wanted for murder in Cocke Co. captured

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- One of the recent additions to the state’s Most Wanted List was captured Friday night.

Rico Derell Sterling, age 24, of Knoxville, was wanted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office for one count of Felony Murder, one count of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery, and one count of Attempted Aggravated Robbery.

Around 7:15 PM, KPD officers arrested Sterling at the River View Park Apartments on River Maple Way. He did not put up a fight.

Detectives say on June 1, 2012, Sterling and Keith Thomas broke into a home on Leaf Way in Newport. A struggle ensued with two victims. One of the the victims died. The other was treated and released.

The first victim suffered a head injury and was treated and released from the hospital. The second victim died at the scene after sustaining injuries in the struggle.

A third man, James Michael Brewer, 27, of Cosby, was also present.

Brewer was arrested Thursday in Newport.

Thomas remains on the loose.
