GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) -- A middle school band director in Sumner County has been charged with repeated sexual encounters with a high school student.
Devri A. Depriest was arrested Tuesday on a charge of statutory rape by an authority figure. The 25-year-old Depriest is the band director at Rucker-Stewart Middle School, but also works with the Gallatin High School band program, according to The Tennessean.
The boy she is charged with raping about 20 times between September and November of last year was then 16.
Gallatin Police Sgt. Chris Shockley's affidavit states he recorded a telephone call between the teen and Depriest. The affidavit states the recording led to Depriest acknowledging the sexual incidents.
Depriest was released from the Sumner County Jail, where records do not indicate whether she has an attorney.
