KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- UPDATE: Local 8 News has exclusive pictures showing damage left by smash and grab thieves at West Town Mall's Apple computer store, and of a glass repairman boarding up what used to be the door.

"I saw the glass had been broken out or whatever, and I was kind of skeptical to go in at first," said Jarius Wilson. He went inside anyway, and says the mood from employees was dim.

"I would think if they broke into the mall the first place the would go is Apple. But I didn't think anyone would actually do it," Wilson said. But someone did, hitting the popular store for the second time. The bandits struck around 2:30 Monday morning when the mall is supposed to be empty.

"I'm kind of shocked to hear someone actually broke in and got away with stuff." Got away with tens of thousands of dollars in Apple computers and other electronics. Their heist was made easier because Apple doesn't have a security gate. The big question, though, how in the world can crooks get into a mall overnight?

"Well you can get into any business. Just depends on how long they want to plan to do what they want to do," said Capt. Don Jones from Knoxville police.

Mall management didn't commenting on the Apple store burglary, except to say, "...cooperating with knoxville police." The mall also says the safety of customers and employees is a "top priority."

KPD says burglars have hit stores in West Town Mall five times in two years. They're not saying if they suspect an inside job. "It's too early in the investigation to tell what's going on," said Jones.
