Claiborne Co. police shootout leaves one suspect wounded

SPEEDWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A shootout in Claiborne Co. leaves one suspect wounded and lands three more in jail, according to Sheriff David Ray.

The suspect, who Sheriff Ray identified as Nolan Alvis "Tutt" Ausmus, was flown via Lifestar to UT Medical Center.

Deputies with the Sheriff's Dept. serving a Narcotics search warrant at a home on Thomas Rd. in Speedwell shortly before midnight on Monday, explained Ray. As they tried to enter, Ray continued, they were shot at multiple times by two different guns. Officers returned fire, hitting Ausmus.

Three others were also arrested, two women and one man. The man was identified was Ausmus' son, Jerry Ausmus.

While there, authorities also searched a home directly across the street, where they arrested four people after finding drugs and drug paraphernalia,

All seven suspects from both houses are awaiting charges. TBI has joined the investigation.
