NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Cocke County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a woman for shooting and killing her husband last October.
Missy Daniella Lane, 40, is charged with second degree murder and reckless homicide.
On October 29, 2013, officers with the Cocke County Sheriff's Department responded to a shooting at 206 Carson Springs Road in Newport. They found Richard Dale Lane, 42, lying in the driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. A handgun was found near his body.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Missy Lane was also at the scene and admitted to investigators that she had shot Richard Lane. But she told officers that the shooting was accidental-- that it happened while the two handle the firearm.
Based on finding by the sheriff's office, TBI, and forensic pathologists, the Cocke County authorities say Missy Lane deliberately shot Richard Lane.
She turned herself in Tuesday morning and remains in custody on a $250,000 bond.
