Joshua Debord, (Source: Sevier County Jail)
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Sevier Co. Dept. of Corrections announced the arrest of a former probation officer following an investigation by its Office of Investigations and Compliance.
It said Officer Joshua Keith DeBord took money from offenders who thought they were paying court fines and fees and spending it on himself.
“These allegations are a serious violation of the public trust and the oath our officers take to uphold the law,” Commissioner Derrick Schofield said.
“The vast majority of our officers take their sworn duty seriously, those who do not will be held accountable for their actions to include possible prosecution.”
DeBord was charged with theft over $500 and booked into the Sevier Co. Jail, the Dept. of Corrections said. He is on administrative leave pending his termination.
