GRAY, Tenn. (AP) -- An East Tennessee man is charged with attempted murder after a shootout with a state trooper that scattered at least 15 rounds, but hurt no one.
The Johnson City Press reported police charged 21-year-old Derrick Dakota Kitzmiller of Gray after the incident Thursday.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a driver called a police post at about 2:15 a.m., saying a car with bright headlights was tailgating him on Interstate 81 in Greene County
Trooper Jeff Appleba caught up with the car and tried to stop it, but the driver tried to escape at speeds above 100 mph, crashing after he exited the interstate.
The KSP said Kitzmiller then exchanged gunfire and details of the shootout were being investigated. A woman in Kitzmiller's car was also arrested.
