KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The Knox County Sheriff's Office has arrested 206 people for theft in less than a month.
It's part of the Safer Holidays Task Force program, which is a joint effort between the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the retail industry.
The goal is to fight criminal activities including retail theft, car burglaries, car thefts, forgery, fraud, and other crimes that occur during the holiday shopping season.
Officers from patrol, detectives and schools make up the special force. They are in marked and unmarked cars and are either in plain clothes or uniforms.
The Sheriff’s Office has been working closely with retailers who say they welcome the extra security. The KCSO and retailers also have an email system to share information and security.
