LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- A Blount County man is accused of beating his neighbor's 7-month-old puppy to death.

Fred Wright, 62, was arrested and charged with stalking and intentional killing of an animal Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the home of Diane Stephens after Wright stood in her driveway and refused to let her go to work. He moved out of the way but when officers arrived was seen on her property.

According to authorities, Wright claimed he was checking on some things on Stephen's property. That's when a deputy made a gruesome discovery. Stephen's 7-month-old puppy was beaten to death.

"She was about 20 feet from her kennel just laying in the leaves and inside her kennel was blood splattered on her house," Stephens said.

Stephens was fostering the puppy named Kyra until she found her a new home.

"My intent was to help this dog find a good home. Now she suffered a horrible death. It's not fair," she said.

Stephens told Local 8 News Wright has been harrassing her for a couple of years.

"He threatened to kill me and my dog before," she said.

"If he's willing to do that to a defenseless puppy, makes me wonder would he would do to another human being. Makes me concerned for Diane," said Richard McCord who volunteers with Stephens at a local animal rescue group.

Stephens obtained an order of protection against Wright after the incident.

She hopes Kyra's story brings awarness to the need for tougher laws when it comes to crimes against animals.
