TAZEWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The two men involved in the officer involved shooting had a lengthy criminal history.
TBI responded to the scene of an officer involved shooting Saturday night that involved one subject being shot. Two officers with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office responded to 3275 Cave Springs Road in Tazewell for a road rage incident. The subject of that incident was being arrested on a drunk and disorderly charge when his father came out of the residence and pointed a gun at officers. One officer fired and shot the subject.
The officer involved works for the Claiborne County Sheriff's office. No officers reported injured. The father who was shot and killed by officers was identified as Terry Massengill, 3275 Cave Springs Rd in Tazewell. His body was taken to the Knox County Medical Examiner for autopsy. Officers arrested Terry's son Brandon Massengill on drunk and disorderly charge.
Terry, the father who was shot and killed, has several arrests on his record involving alcohol and drugs. Here are some of his arrests. He had a simple possession marijuana charge in 97, an open container in 2004, 3 DUIs on his record, a public intoxication on his record in 2003, prescription drug charge in 2009.
Terry's son, Brandon S. Massengill, was arrested Saturday night. His criminal record includes underage consumption in 2004, vandalism charge with damages reaching $1000 in 2013, and a domestic assault charge in 2012. He's also under an order of protection.
The investigation is still open and ongoing at this time and TBI's case file will be turned over to the District Attorney General for review when completed.
Claiborne County Sheriff's Office hasn't released the names of officers involved in shootings.
