MIDDLESBORO, KY (WVLT) -- An officer shot and killed an armed robbery suspect in Middlesboro, Ky.
According to police, Leamond Ward, 20, of Middlesboro, tried to rob Lee's BP on 38th Street at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday night.
Police say when the first officer arrived, Ward advanced toward him with a knife. The officer says he told Ward to drop the knife, but Ward refused and continued forward, making slashing motions with the knife. According to police, the officer shot Ward twice.
Ward died at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital as a result of the gunshot wounds he received during the incident.
The officer who shot Ward is on administrative leave, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
