KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knoxville man cut his own throat and was later shot with a taser by the officers trying to arrest him, according to the Knoxville Police Dept. Rhudy Claiborne, 43, is expected to be charged with two counts of Assault as well as Domestic Assault and Violation of an Order of Protection.

Officers found Claiborne at the Northshore Woods Apts., 1401 Northshore Woods Dr. shortly before 7:00 p.m. Sunday night. They said he had assaulted his girlfriend. He then reportedly grabbed a knife and cut his own throat.

While officers were talking to Claiborne, they said he became aggressive and charged them. One of the officers deployed his taser and took Claiborne into custody without further incident.

Claiborne was taken to UT Medical Center where he was treated and released a short time later.
