Deputy run over by fleeing suspects

CLAXTON, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two men were arrested following an early morning break-in at a heating and air-conditioning business in Claxton on Tuesday.

The Anderson Co. Sheriff's Department said the business owner called in the robbery while it was still going on. Deputy Jonathan Bryant arrived as the two suspects were trying to get away in a van.

While the driver was struggling with Deputy Bryant, he started driving away, dragging the deputy along with him. The van then ran over Bryant's leg and foot.

The suspect's van ran into a nearby tree, where deputies later found it. One suspect took off on foot and the other, Jason Lamar Ledford was treated for injuries and then taken into custody.

The stolen items from the business were found in the van. The other suspect, John Allen Gentry reportedly received a ride from a passerby to Knoxville. Shortly afterwards officers arrested Gentry at his grandmother's home in East Knoxville. He was treated for injuries and taken into custody.

Both Gentry and Ledford are being held in the Anderson County Detention Facility. The two do not have any arrest accounts in Anderson County but have a history in Knox County. KPD is determining whether or not Gentry and Ledford are involved in other related crimes.

Deputy Bryant has leg injuries and possible broken bones in his foot.
