Dozens arrested in "Phase 1" of pill mill bust in Hamblen Co.

HAMBLEN CO., Tenn. (WVLT) -- More than two dozen people were rounded up Friday in what the Hamblen Co. Sheriff's Office is calling Phase 1 their effort to end prescription drug abuse in the county.

Twenty-eight warrants were served in the morning and by early afternoon, every one of them was arrested without incident, authorities said.

The suspects are accused of making regular trips to Florida to stock up on pills as well as getting them from pill mills in east Tennessee. They would then allegedly sell them in neighborhoods across Hamblen Co.

Local 8 News had a crew on hand for the arrests and will update the story as it develops.
