KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- New details have emerged regarding the elderly Knoxville man who was reported missing on Tuesday, was later found at friends home, and told police his daughter had been stealing from him.
Marvin Lenhart filed a Theft report with the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office in which he claimed his daughter, Wanda Yulizar, stole around $18,000 from him. He told authorities he was staying with her while recuperating from a hip replacement surgery. He claims Yulizar took a lock box from him which contained the money and told him he was never getting it back.
Lenhart said he no longer felt safe at her home, so he left around 2:00 p.m. on Monday. His daughter reported him missing and he was found the next day at a friend's home.
The report has been handed over to the District Attorney's office; no warrants have been issued.
When they found him, reports indicate officers had to try to find a place for the man to stay since he refused to return to his daughter's home.
After his daughter Wanda Yulizar was contacted and told they did not have power of attorney nor documentation that placed him in their care, police said she and her husband said they didn't want him to return there. Officers were dispatched to pick up some his medication and personal belongings.
Emergency crews conducted mental and physical exams after he was found and determined he was no danger to himself or anyone else and was lucid. They reportedly found no sign of the dementia from which Yulizar claimed he suffered.
