KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVT) - A 25-year-old suspected purse snatcher turned herself into the Knox County Sheriff's Office after being thrust into the media spotlight. The elderly woman she robbed - Ms. Evelyn - spoke exclusively with WVLT Volunteer TV News.

Ms. Evelyn is in quite a bit of pain and has trouble getting around these days after the robbery.

Investigators believe Stacy Foringer, who also goes by the last name Sexton, is the woman on a surveillance photo from Food City in Powell. Foringer has admitted to snatching the 83-year-old woman's purse and dragging her to the ground.

"When she grabbed me, I held on to the purse and she drugged me," Ms. Evelyn said.

The thief took off with $200 and her favorite black handbag.

"I just picked my purse up out the buggy, and I was gonna go out there and sit down a minute on that bench," Ms. Evelyn said referring to a bench at the grocery store.

"I just got out about middle ways in the hall and here she come clump, clump, clump."

Investigators say it happened as Ms. Evelyn was about to leave the grocery store with a family friend.

"I'm sorry it happened. Her hip's still messed up and she can hardly walk," said Mr. James.

Mr. James, a longtime family friend, was with Ms. Evelyn paying for his groceries but hadn't realized what happened.

"They did get my groceries ready to get in the buggy and then come hollering through there that she got robbed."

A Food City manager says he was blown away at how the suspect lurked behind Ms. Evelyn before making a move.

"As soon as she got out of the view of people with registers. She went straight for the purse. You could tell she was scoping her out."
"You could tell (Ms. Evelyn) was trying to hold on for dear life, but she (the attacker) was a big girl."

Apart from losing the money and her purse, Ms. Evelyn has had to get a new driver's license and open a new checking account. In addition to her hip pain, she's got a few scratches and bruises.

"I put Neosporin on it. It just won't heal up seems like."

And she'd like to, perhaps, give her attacker a few bruises - too.

"I'd just like to give em a good whippin,'" she laughs.

KCSO says Stacey Foringer has a criminal history of disorderly conduct, public intoxication and driving without a license. She'll be in court June 22nd.

They should throw the book at her. Preying on elderly. The judge should give her a long time to think of what she did, then some community service picking up trash.
