Matthew Correll sentencing statement

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- An electrician charged with falsifying inspection records at an unfinished nuclear reactor in Tennessee has been sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.

Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Correll took a plea deal on charges of falsifying reports while working last year at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Watts Bar Unit 2 reactor between Knoxville and Chattanooga. It's the only site in the nation where a commercial reactor is now under construction.

Prosecutors stressed when he was arrested in March that there was no harm to the public, but it came at a time of anxiety over the nuclear disaster in Japan.

Correll says he falsified the report after his supervisor told him to hurry up and finish the job. His supervisor is expected to plead guilty next week.
