Roane fender bender leads to killing

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- What started as a fender bender in the parking lot of Grill & Pub Bar just outside Harriman ended with David Harvey dead.

It went down around 2:30 Saturday morning when cops say Harvey accidentally drove into Eric Gallerher's car. A fight broke out. Detectives believe Gallaher delivered the fatal blow to Harvey's head.

"It's a little shocking because you don't realize what's going on down the street. Then again it's a bar, and you kind of wonder, well what is going on down there," said Kevin Sellars. He and his family live within walking distance of the bar. "I honestly don't let my children play out in the front yard."

Deputies say the bar has a long history of problems. "We've had numerous calls out there and we are still investigating a missing person case out there," said Tim Phillips with the Roane County Sheriff's Office.

"I'm not surprised by it. You hear sirens throughout the night sometimes and you wonder is it related to that bar," said Sellars.

Gallaher remains locked up in the Roane County Jail facing one count of reckless homicide. He's being held on a $50,000 bond.

I believe this has been grossly misrepresented. The violence and total injustice are both under estimated. I don't know if it is because this happened at a bar, but I truly think that this should not be judged by that fact. What I know about David Harvey is that he was a kind and peaceful man, bar, beer, or not. And I hope that justice is served accordingly and all facts come out to reveal that this was not just a simple "fender bender" fight or bar brawl; because David was not that kind of person. And he deserves better than the news is portraying his death.

@ Gentry..Are you kidding me! You blame the Roane County Sheriff department. You need to realize that they are NOT going to sit in front of this bar and wait for one of it's patrons to "do something". If you DO think that you are seriously mistaken in the ways of society. If you want something done, then approach the Roane County Commission and demand/petition they close down this bar. It is the bar and it's patrons....NOT the RCSD. Although it is sad your Uncle passed in this manner it is NOT the responsibility of the RCSD. Your Uncle made the decision to stop into this bar. Did you expect the Sheriff department to be sitting in the parking lot to turn him around and tell him of all the "bad things" that go on in there. Get a grip! You sound ridiculous. Also if you are TRULY getting those type of messages, then YOU have a responsibility to provide those to the Sheriff Dept. so it can be possibly used against your Uncle's murderer. Hope YOU do the right thing.

Gentry sorry for you loss. And hopefully they will shut this place down. I just hope that justice is served the correct way and it doesn't become a racial issue for our town.

which is understandable but i believe both was intoxicated i doubt harvery had insurance so he would have went to jail if police would have been called first ok next i don't think anybody that gets hit one time u would think would die on top of that he tried to revive him so i don't think it was intentional on either parts just sayin this is what happens with alcohol and no supervision during consumption on both parts not just one not sayin anythin bad about harvey but i'm not going to let people just slander a man u don't know callin him a murder and u wasn't there and don't know the details
